The arrival of Henny Penny Hatching Unit at the residence is cause for
great excitement for both residents and staff!
The table top unit may be located either in the foyer or lounge or in any area
that residents gather to socialize
This no hassle birthing unit is delivered to your door , set up and tested by
experienced staff who will take you through the simple operation requirements -
feed, water etc. making sure you are quite happy and confident before they
leave. ( We are on call 24 hours just in case)
The dome incubator allows viewing throughout 350 degrees ( no jostling for
position here!)
The 15 fertile eggs supplied will hatch during the first week. The brooding area
is set up to receive the new arrivals who will join the 3 day old chicks you
will receive on day one!
Imagine the excitement when individual eggs begin rocking, then piping , then
finally out pops the newly born chicks!
Many a nostalgic memory is recalled around the brooding area as
residents
recall very happy childhood experiences. Interaction with the chicks is
encouraged, perhaps also some- one will take chicks to the bedridden residents
just to make their day.
Some comments received from Nursing Staff and Diversional Therapists:-

dementia unit residents - they
loved it"
"We found that residents who never usually spoke to each other -
interacted!"
"Grand-parents loved to show the children visiting them"
"They loved watching the chicks instead of TV "
