For
the Welfare of Baby Chicks:-
Henny
Penny Hatching would ask that the following
guidelines are observed
a)
That
children are supervised at all times whilst
around the incubator and ‘the
playpen’
b)
That
children always sit down on the floor whilst
handling the chicks and are shown the
correct way to hold them safely
(If teachers are unsure
of the correct way to handle the chicks
please ask the person setting up your
program for advice.
They will be happy to help you.)
c)
If
the Incubator and Playpen need to be set up
in an area that is not able to be supervised
by teaching staff all the time (ie a
library or separate room where children go
through or where parents with siblings visit
the program without teachers attendance or
when staff are supervising outside
play), we would advise that partitions
or similar apparatus be placed around the
area when unattended by teaching staff.
Reminder
to Queensland Teachers
We
have been asked to remind Teachers that
under The Queensland Animal Care and
Protection Act 2001 they
are obliged to notify the Animal Ethics
Officer at Education Queensland
that they are using a Chicken Hatching
Programme, when the chicks produced are
being used for any scientific experiments ie
weighing of chicks etc.
Should
the program be solely for observation then
the above will not apply.
Should
you require further information regarding
this policy please refer to:-
